Craft.io’s Now-Next-Later is a rigid communication tool only, with a single-level feature focus, and not a dynamic, working roadmap with the ability to set different levels of detail for different audiences.

FAQs
- What roadmap formats are available in ProdPad vs Craft.io?
ProdPad is the home of the Now-Next-Later roadmap (our Co-Founders invented the format!) and it’s the only Product Management software that provides the structure and functionality needed to use this popular roadmapping technique to it’s full. With a two-level roadmap item you can prioritize at the problem level and attach multiple feature ideas to that Initiative as you validate and test to find the best solution.
With Craft.io, Now-Next-Later is used as a prioritization template and only allows you to position single-level features across the three time horizons.
Craft.io’s roadmap format templates are more tactic in nature, being timeline based or structured around releases.
Both ProdPad and Craft.io allow you to group your roadmap by Objective, but with Craft.io that is only at the feature level and without also including your timings. ProdPad enables you to group your roadmap at any level of your portfolio, by Objective, whilst still retaining the Now-Next-Later view so it’s clear what comes when for each Objective.
With ProdPad’s Now-Next-Later roadmap tool, you can couple the easy-to-understand structure of the time horizons with the more granular detail of exact dates. You have the option of assigning a date to any Initiative on your Now-Next-Later roadmap in ProdPad, so if you need to communicate a specific target date, you can without the need to timeline your entire roadmap.
- Who can submit feature ideas in ProdPad and Craft.io?
Craft.io only allow paid users (usually Product Managers) to create feature ideas, making it hard to encourage contribution and engagement from the wider organization. ProdPad believe in fostering collaboration around the product strategy, and, as such, anyone in your organization can submit Ideas to the backlog.
With ProdPad you get free and unlimited Reviewer accounts, meaning you can invite anyone to your ProdPad account without fear of cost. Reviewers can add and edit their own Ideas and Feedback, and view and comment on those added by others. Product Managers can then triage and refine these ideas using the Idea Management tool, managing them through their evaluation process before deciding if they’re right for the roadmap.
- What feedback capture capabilities do Craft.io and ProdPad have?
With Craft.io there are two ways feedback can be added – either through a feedback portal, or through their Slack or Teams integrations (which are in their early beta stages).
With ProdPad, feedback can be submitted in a host of different ways, all designed to make it super easy for your stakeholders and customers to share their insights. Those ways include a browser extension, email, far deeper and more mature Slack and MS Teams integrations, customer feedback portals and embeddable widgets, CRM integrations, Support system integrations and more. Learn more about ProdPad’s robust feedback gathering capabilities here.
- How do the development tool integrations of Craft.io and ProdPad compare?
Whilst Craft.io do offer a Jira and an Azure DevOps integration, they do not offer the easy set-up and use of ProdPad’s integrations. Especially with Craft.io’s Jira integration, where an API key is required (something Jira do not recommend) and can only be set up by an admin user of Jira. ProdPad, on the other hand, has a simple-setup without the need for API keys or admin credentials. The 2-way sync is also automatic and all part of the first-time setup. Craft.io requires you to separately implement webhooks to have Jira update records in Craft.io.
- Does Craft.io offer any AI assistance in the same way that ProdPad does?
Short answer: no. Craft.io has no AI assistance of any kind, meaning Product Managers using Craft.io will be forced to use external generative AI tools to help them write documentation, develop their thinking and speed up their work.
ProdPad, on the other hand, has the most robust AI capabilities of any other Product Management tool, empowering it’s users to get Product Management primed AI assistance at every turn. Whether it’s automatically triaging your idea backlog, generating documentation, helping with your ideation or even offering constructive feedback on your work, Product Managers who use ProdPad are able to move faster and deliver more.
- How do the Slack and MS Teams integrations compare with ProdPad vs Craft.io?
ProdPad has the most advantaged integration for both Slack and Teams of any other Product Management tool. It does more, goes deeper and is the key to fostering consistent engagement from the rest of your organization. Craft.io has an integration that is currently in beta with both of these tools, however, it’s functionality is limited to feedback submission only.
With ProdPad’s Slack and Teams integration you can highlight any text and right click to add it to ProdPad as either Feedback or a new Idea. You can also sync discussion threads on any Initiative or Idea directly with Slack or Teams so you can bring in commentary from anyone in your organization without them having to log into ProdPad. Just @mention a teammate and they’ll get the notification in Slack or Teams and the discussions will sync between the two tools.
You can also automatically push notifications into your chosen Slack or Teams channel whenever new Ideas or pieces of Feedback are added to ProdPad. So you can keep everyone up-to-date with what’s happening in Product, without any manual effort.
And finally, with ProdPad’s Slack integration anyone in your company can speak directly to ProdPad CoPilot and get fast answers to their questions. So your stakeholders can fire a question into the ProdPad Slack app about anything in your backlog, or anything relating to Product Management best practice and get an instant answer without having to come to you.
- What automation rules can you set in ProdPad vs Craft.io?
Craft.io does not offer the ability to set automation rules to automatically move items, change statuses or relieve any manual updating. ProdPad, on the other hand, does – enabling Product Managers to spend less time on admin tasks when it comes to triaging Feedback or managing their backlog.
