Meet the Team: Kavan Webb
In the latest instalment of Meet the Team, we’re going under the microscope with Kavan Webb, our User Experience Designer here at ProdPad. You’ll probably know him from MTP or if you’ve been involved in user/beta testing, checking out all the exciting things coming up in the product.
Since Joining Kav has entertained us with his bone-dry sense of humour, given us the first peek at the next great children’s book character, Jimothy Bear! (He’s coming for you Peppa.) But most importantly Kav tirelessly works on leading ProdPad into the future with his fantastic UX design skills.
Over to you Kav!
Explain what you do
I am ProdPad’s User Experience Designer. I use a mixture of research, data, customer feedback, customer interviews and user testing to design both the ProdPad product itself and the marketing site so that they are the best that they can be.
I also design all other ProdPad collateral, whether that be a new logo, any illustrations, t-shirts and conference material, printed ephemera and anything else.
What did you do before ProdPad?
I worked for a digital marketing company as a UX Designer in the Product Team, designing their self-service email sending product. Think Mailchimp, but better. 😉
What makes you excited to work at ProdPad?
ProdPad is made up of such great people, both clever and fun. I love seeing how my work is changing the product for the better and helping the company grow.
Favorite productivity app?
Sketch. There is no competition with regards to vector-based design and illustration.
Favorite time-wasting app?
I think mine’s probably quite a boring one, but when I’ve got a spare 5 minutes, I often crack out Solitaire on my iPhone. I’m terrible at it with a 7.2% win rate, but it’s the only app that ever survives my periodic app cull. I think it’s probably the only app that has survived since I bought a 3GS in 2009.
Most famous person you’ve ever met?
I’ve met a lot of famous people, some probably more so than my choice, but for me meeting Rivers Cuomo of the band Weezer is the most famous person I’ve ever met. He’s my actual hero.
Favorite thing about working remotely?
That I get to see my son. ❤️
Puppies or kittens?
Puppies! I have a Pug, Rivers (Yes… He’s named after that Rivers mentioned above). He’s my boy. He was the cutest puppy.
Do you have any hobbies?
I enjoy spending time with my girlfriend, son and Pug. I love music and go to lots of live gigs. I am also a big movie fan.
I’ve recently started writing and illustrating children’s picture books in my spare time. I’ve completed one so far and had it printed, with work on the next in the series in progress. My son told me that it’s his favourite book.
And finally tell us a fun fact about you?
I once had a near-miss in being kidnapped by Saddam Hussein in Kuwait. Not particularly fun. My fun fact is that I was in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’ at the London Palladium in the West End for about 6 months in the 90’s. 20ish years later I went to see Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys at the same venue. It was weird watching a performance from the audience instead of from the stage.
